Nature Morte a Charleston

This still life is inspired by the renowned Charleston farmhouse in Sussex, Halliday is clearly paying homage to the Bloomsbury Group’s artistic legacy. The still life embodies an expressive interplay of colour and form. Halliday combines bold brushstrokes with a calm but vibrant colour palette to depict a plant sat on a windowsill, with patterned curtains either side and book placed next to it. He uses his technique of outlining the key details in a black, flowing mark making technique, this adds another dimension to the piece. Through this work, Halliday not only celebrates a historical artistic movement but also imbues the still life genre with renewed energy and narrative depth.
