Joseph Capicotto is a Canadian artist based in Toronto whose work truly embodies freedom in form and feeling. He earned an Honours Degree in Fine Arts and Mass Communications at York University, where he specialised in figure drawing. Known for his ambitious exploration of medium and style, Capicotto’s art ranges from flowing figurative scenes to abstract explorations, each infused with a dreamlike, romantic sensibility that resonates with mystery and palpable emotion. Early in his career, he opened portraiture studios in Toronto malls, leading to mural commissions in homes and restaurants across the city. Inspired by Michelangelo’s frescoes, Capicotto even developed his own plaster technique for use with palette knives—a signature method that helped launch gallery representation with Kipling Gallery and, later, Galerie Beauchamp in Québec. His works, mixed media paintings combining acrylic, oil, and encaustic techniques—are sought after worldwide and regularly exhibited in Canada, the UK, and beyond. Each canvas reveals his fascination with light, colour, texture, and harmony making his art both visually striking and emotionally stirring.
